Autumn knitwear trends

By | October 3, 2011

As the days grow shorter and temperatures begin to drop this autumn, keep yourself snug and fashionable in one of this season’s shrugs or cardigans. There are an array of colours and styles to choose from to suit every taste and body shape. So there really is no excuse not to cover up this season with shrugs and cardigans and stay warm and fabulous.

There are so many ways to keep covered up in style this season.

Firstly, consider the longline cardigan. Floaty and feminine, this style is perfect for long and lean ladies and looks wonderful paired with some skinny jeans and a scoop neck t shirt. Wear with knee high riding boots for a laid back daytime look that will keep you dry and warm at all times. Choose from this season’s gorgeous jewelled shades such as amethyst or deep ruby, or go for a neutral shade such as fawn or navy which will match most outfits.

Chunky knit is huge this season, and a chunky knit cardigan or shrug looks glam worn over a little dress with tights and boots. Ponchos are also hot news, and a very city chic look. Ponchos are certainly the fashionista’s ideal way to dress up and keep warm.

Stripes and patterns continue to be big news into the new season. Floral cardigans are pretty and feminine and add interest to an otherwise simple outfit, while stripes are super-flattering if worn correctly. The trick is thick stripes for larger frames or thin stripes for boyish shapes who want to create the illusion of curves.

Tunics are super popular this year and so easy to wear. To bring your tunic on trend choose it with a geometric pattern or block colours and rock the look with some leggings and an oversized bag.

Knitted dresses are also a cute and girly way to wear the autumn’s knitwear trend in style. Choose from ribbed styles that emphasise a sexy hourglass figure, or wear in a dark colour for a versatile look that goes with anything.

A cocoon cardigan or shrug is perfect for a day to evening look and layering up on colder days. Also perfect for office wear, the shrug is set to be massive this season.

This autumn, don’t hide indoors but embrace the gorgeous autumn weather by wrapping up warm in knitwear cardigans and shrugs, whilst always looking super-hot.
