The braking system is certainly one of the key points for the active safety of a vehicle, therefore, is crucial for the efficiency of the apparatus always travel safely. Now let’s see how to replace brake pads and / or brake discs on our car.
instructions
To facilitate the dismantling of the clamp, even before you pick up your car you should turn the steering wheel on your side, so that the caliper of the disc is facing you. Raise the car with the jack and remove the rim wheel after removing the bolts.
With a hex wrench, unscrew the bolts 9 on the back side of the gripper holding the frame: If you are very resistant, means they were locked in their home with the threadlocker: in any case, you should insist more to be able to unscrew.
Removed the bolts, remove the caliper from the disc without detaching from the brake pipe. To replace the hard you have to unscrew the screw that holds it on its front position on the hub and remove it from the hub by pulling it toward you.
Take the new disc, wipe the oily layer, positioned to protect its surface and lightly greased surfaces in direct contact with the hub of the drive shafts to prevent rust. Enter the new disc on the hub in the direction of the direction indicated for slotted disks and / or perforated. Tighten the screw holding the disc in place.
To replace the worn pads from the calipers, press relying on them from the outside so that you bring to the center of the clamp, then remove them.
In the version with floating caliper, first remove the piston side pad, then move the floating part of the clamp until you can remove the tablet from the fixed side of the caliper.
To insert the new pads, the piston apart (or move the floating part of the pliers) enough to introduce them in their homes. Place each pad in the slot following the direction indicated on it, and in doing so the three blades stuck in their head, being careful not to bend or break. Make sure there is between the brake pads the space needed to fit the caliper on the disc, otherwise distanziatele relying on them, thus avoiding scratching the case of the friction surfaces.
Place the caliper on the disk to its original position and secure it with the special bolts from the back after viewing the status of the thread clamping of each of them: if they are very damaged, replace them with new ones within a short time or in good condition.
Replace the wheel, tighten the bolts and lower the vehicle.
Repeat these steps for the other brake on the same axle. The proceedings are completed and returned the car floor, checked and possibly reset the brake fluid level in the tank.
In the early braking, do not use more than 1 / 3 of pedal: you must let the pads properly position themselves in their home. It ‘likely that the efficiency of these first braking is very low due to the thin protective layer which have been coated tablets: do not go in the busy streets to make the first braking.
Will be followed by a break in period where they should carefully avoid prolonged and intense braking, especially in the first km. This period depending on the coupling discs / pads varying from 500 to 1000 km.
After the EBC Brakes, EBC Brake Pads, EBC Rotors, check the brake fluid level and condition of the disc to see if the pill works on the entire surface scratches appear and if marked, steps or uneven wear of the disk.
If everything is in order, enjoy!
